Granger School Gymnasium

Granger, Texas

Home Team:  Granger Lions

Year Built:  1940 by the Works Projects Administration Architect:  Travis Broesche of Brenham, Texas

Architectural Style:  Spanish Mission/Art Deco

Cost:  $33,504.00

Notable:  On September 18, 1940 then US Congressman Lyndon B. Johnson sent Granger School Officials a telegram stating, “Happy to tell you President Roosevelt has approved Granger Gymnasium Project.”

As stated by Granger School Officials, construction of the gym was “borne of a need to further build on the skills of the athletes enrolled, providing a permanent all-weather home to the students.”

Locals now claim gym may be haunted as basketballs have been reported to dribble or roll across the gym floor on their own in the wee hours of the night
